I have to agree with the supporters of AVG. I have been using it for over 3 years and have never had a problem. Those with concerns might like to consider buying antivirus software, after all,it is a free world and we are all given choices!
I have known similar things to happen when a video card has worked loose. I would suggest that you open up the computer, disconnect and remove the video card, then replace it securely, reconnect and boot up. It is only a stab in the dark but well worth a go............Dave
