Unable to visit to site http://download.com.com

I am unable to visit download.com.com either directly or from cnet.com page.Used different browers (IE5/6,netscape,mozilla) but always get the same outcome.With IE I get "The page cannot be found
HTTP 404 Not found".With mozilla, I get the message " No web site is configured at this address". I have windows 98.I am able to ping successfully from the DOS prompt but from the browser, I am getting the problem.I used to go the download.com.com all the time but I have a suspision that after installing a security patch for win 98 posted on microsoft site, my miseries started. Please help.

See if you can click on the link below:

http://download.com.com/2001-20-0.html?legacy=cnet

if not, you may want to check your internet security settings, restricted sites (see if it was some how entered in there), and the advanced tab's Security section.

I just typed in download.com (instead of clicking on my Favorites link) and clicked go and it popped right up.

Hope you can work it out.

I tried clicking on the link but it didn't work. Also I checked the internet security settings and I don't have any entry in the restricted sites.

No problems. By the way , download.com.com is the only site giving me problem.Somebody please help ?

Nope, that Hp link worked for me.

The title bar read: "Welcome to HP."

Maybe if you d/l more patches, then one of them might fix the problems you both are having.

Actually, what SPs do you both have on your browser? Could it be the same one(s)?

I have IE 5.50 and SPack1 with 128 ciphering.

I always thought that any file that had two types was suspicious. I can't get onto:

http://www.download.com.com

but I can access:

http://www.download.com

Could that be something to do with the double .com on the end?

I tried both download.com and download.com.com but I get
the same result.Actually download.com resolves to download.com.com.

Yep. I wondered about the double com at the end. Just click on download .com and you may be pleasantly surprised.
