Recently installed an IP 500 (rel. 5.0.15) with 6 digital phones and VM Pro for a customer. Customer has 4 analog lines provided by Verizon Vios. Every few inbound calls the user gets static for 3-5 seconds. Tested the lines with a butt set on the providers end and did not get any static. Have since swapped out all hardware, thinking possibly a bad truck module or processor. Have ran an auto impedence match and also check "quiet line" on all lines. Static is still present. Not sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you say it's every few calls that would suggest it is only on one of the trunks as the system steps through the trunks automatically. I would put each trunk into it's own outgoing group so you can narrow down which line is at/has the fault. Then swap the trunk to another port to see if the fault follows the port or the trunk. It could be that the test butt is more tolerant/better impedance matched to the trunk?

sounds like a DsL line that wants to reconnect so check if you have filters in the lines if they are DsL lines.
Use a butt set to monitor once you have the line identified via SSA and see if you can hear it too, which reminds me do both parties hear the noise? If not then you have a system problem for sure.

was thinking about that long enough (I type slow so I have time)

Stactic is only on inbound calls and only my customer (the receipent) hears the static. Since a typically buttset is more tolerant then the system is there another method to test the lines which would be less tolerant?

It IS your system not the lines, otherwise you would hear the static on both ends of the conversation. Is the system on a UPS and grounded?
I guess it also happens on all phones?
Anything radiating close to the IPO some weird wireless device?

System is grounded. The static occurs on all phones. Also, no wireless device is nearby.

I guess you need to swap the line card for starters, from now on it is a guessing game what to try first.

reminds me of a recent similar problem I had. Customer complained of interference on a lot of intermittant calls. he had a laptop power supply beside the digital telephone causing the interference!

Have swapped out all hardware: processor, trunk cards, station cards, etc. Static has occured at all phones, I do not think power supplies would be the problem.

em1234, have you tried any of the things I suggested i.e putting them in their own trunk group and moving them around? As you say you have changed all hardware out and the chances of two things having the exact same fault are very slim so the only common factor now is the handsets and the lines/one of the lines and I doubt all the handsets have the same fault either :)
