Problem solved. Thanks to both of you for the quick reply. It turned my head in the right direction and flyboytim's step by step made it easy. My 90+ brain forgot that I was using a 24 inch wide screen flat panel TV for the monitor.
Hp Pavilion with W 7 64 bit. Every word that has lowercase l's and/or i's will have a brown shadow on them. This includes file names, files, applications, icons and so on. Computer is about 30 days old. Tried restoring as early as my first restore point.
I know I could do a recovery but I...
Problem Solved. Thanks to linney, PRPhx and flyboytim for your quick responses. Password didn't work as a password.
The link flyboytim suggested didn't work for me although it is great program. The solution was my decision to reinstall W7. When I took out the disk I found the "Boot and Repair"...
Yes, it is the built-in admin password. I tried the blank, no go. No passwords have been used on this machine. Only the administrator Icon with my screen name appears on the screen. I am locked out at that point.
I used the elevated command prompt in W7 to activate the administrative rights and I did not assign a password. When I rebooted I was asked for a password. Without it I cannot access the hard drive. It is now connected as a slave drive and W7 cannot see the drive. Is there any way I can undo...
For what it's worth. I had Xp Home upgrade running on a home built machine. I recently acquired a HP Pavilion, swapped out the hard drives and booted it up. It asked for the XP CD which I inserted. It loaded and rebooted OK. reactivation was not requested. I did have to find drivers for video...
AVG also has a "anti-spyware" program. It's is a trial version but after the trial you can use it as a free version, but you will have to manually update it.
AVG has kept me out of trouble for a long time.
Sorry, I can't help you with your explorer problem.
Good Luck!
DO NOT FORMAT the drive if you want to recover the files on it. My thoughts are to slave it to another PC. (External drives on USB sometimes get really dumb if you forget to get permission to disconnect them or disconnect them after the comp has been powered down)
Good Luck
Sounds like an open (broken wire) lead in the in the cable to the right speaker. Can you connect the left speaker (or one of the other speakers) to the cable for the right speaker and see if it works. If it works, then you have a bad speaker but if it does not, then the cable is at fault...
Do you have both a CD and DVD drive in your system? It
might help if it saw the DVD drive before the CD drive.
(C: = hdd, D: = DVD drive, E: = CD drive)
The BIOS should identify it as a DVD drive.
All XP disks I have seen are CD's.
Just a thought from the past
I also use Roxio 7 and when I eject the disk with the "Drag-to-Disk" and the "eject settings" window appears, I have to go to the advanced settings and check the last line to "Leave the Disk As Is". Good Luck and please let us know your solution.
Since you can boot up in normal mode, from the run cmd enter :sfc /scannow You will need the CD and ID key. This will check and repair or replace any missing or corrupt system files.
Hope this helps
try sorting across the motherboard power connector with a screwdriver"
jhockey meant to momentairly short the two pins that the case switch connects to. The case switch only makes a connection while it is being pressed"
Good Luck
Is this a new system that you assembled?
You stated that you tried it outside the case with all peripherals disconnected. I take this to mean there is no hard drive nor floppy drive connected by data cable nor power cable and the MB is insulated from whatever it is resting on. Did you try...
