I have 5.1 channel speakers, but just recently my front right speaker stopped working. I already checked all the cable connections, and tried the "auto-test" provided with the software. The speaker connects to the computer with the same cable as the front left speaker which works fine. I plugged in headphones to the front right speakers port and got the same result: the right ear did not work, but the left ear did. Then i plugged the headphones into the computer port: both worked, but they were just backwards (no big deal I guess....).

My question is: is my speaker just broken somehow, or would it be my computer's ports or motherboard with something fried??

Sounds like an open (broken wire) lead in the in the cable to the right speaker. Can you connect the left speaker (or one of the other speakers) to the cable for the right speaker and see if it works. If it works, then you have a bad speaker but if it does not, then the cable is at fault.

Good Luck
