Windows ME & USB???

Hi Folks,

I just have a quick question. A friend of mine called last night asking me a few questions - you know how it is when you work in IT. However, I didn't have a definitive answer for him so I have a question:

Does win ME support USB devices - namely a USB device to connect to a wireless network.

I use USB with ME but the USB drivers came on the MB disk.
The disk had drivers for both the VIA and Intel Chip sets.

Does WinME support USB? Absolutely.

Unlike Windows 2000 or XP, however, there aren't as many USB drivers built into Windows ME for USB devices like flash drives, wireless network cards, etc.

Therefore, you'll want to visit the wireless card manufacturer's website and see if they have the old drivers out there. Most still do. Of course, if your friend still has the software that came with the device, then that would save you a search out at the website.

As cdogg just said...some devices plug in with no problem but, I've bought and tried some peripherials (cameras, usb floppy, flash drives) that require drivers for Me and W2K.

Kind of a jaw dropper for me...I'm conditioned to plug about anything into Me and W2K and have it work. I'm also conditioned to installing drivers for 98se and below.

Guess I'll just start carrying a cd full of drivers when on the road.
