Sorry for the long post, but I don't know what else to do.
My new system is completely non-functional. The stand-by power LED lights on the motherboard, but there is no reaction when I press the power switch. There is no function when tested outside the case with all of the peripherals disconnected. The fans do not run, even in the power supply.
I first assumed the power supply was bad, so I replaced that. No change. Then I thought maybe the case was shorting something, so I replaced that.
I swapped the memory, no change. I RMA’ed the motherboard; nothing. I RMA’ed the processor…nothing. I tried a different PCI-e video card. Nada.
Here’s the killer…I just bought an entirely different brand motherboard and processor…and the problem is exactly the same. This one has a numeric troubleshooting display on it….when I try to power it on, it goes from “00” to “83” (“ATX power supply ready”), but is still totally nonfunctional. There is occasionally a minor movement from the CPU fan or the fan in the power supply, but nothing else.
The 4-pin ATX power connector near the processor is connected. All of the pins are fine in that and the 24-pin power connector. I have cleared the CMOS. I am totally stumped....any ideas?
