You may have to turn on the file sharing on the XP system to access the remote shares from it. I have heard of this type of thing before.

The HP web site may also have updated drivers for this machine, it they are supporting other OS's on that model.

If I remember correctly that is a function of the BIOS, power on/off and power failure or some such option.

Try looking in the Run key, I am not sure were it is located but you can do a search in the Registry.

Not sure, my xp machine can see other win98 machines fine on my network, and I did not do anything out of the normal to get my network up. But I do need to browse the entire network icon then the workgroupe to see these machines.

Success, copying the shortcut into the Accessories fold and re-assigned the shrotcut, rebooted and the shortcut now works fine. I am thinking it has something to do with the way the favorites folder is displayed on the start menu or something like that. So I guess make a new folder in the start...

QVO, I just duplicated your problem, I assigned Ctrl+F12 to one of my internet favorites, reboot and the shortcut key does not work, it is still assigned but does not work. One thing I just thought of is maybe try moving the Favorites shortcut into a different fold in the start menu, like...

On thing to keep in mind is if the cpu (or other components) overheat it can cause the computer to reboot or shutdown. Usaully though overheating will cause a shutdown until it cools off, maybe take a look and make sure all the fans are running correctly and all heatsinks a still attached.

Also check any settings in any anti-virus software.

I thought I remebered a setting to save settings on exit, if this option was turned off it would not keep any of your custom settings, check using TweakUI, I think.

If you are using Win95/Win98 there is no way to track users as the can cancell the windows logon. If you were on a network you may be able to Policies to force a logon but that is all I know of.

Can you not just delete it from the desktop?

I am running XP Pro on Dual C500's, I have had no problems at all, and my dial-up internet has seen about 100% increase in throughput! I am very happy with XP.
