Installing WinXP Pro with SP2 on a SATA HD

BadBigBen has the right idea. I had the problem because my SATA BIOS setting was to RAID. I think I changed it to IDE and it worked ok then. Good Luck.

I would start out by UNINSTALLING NORTON and any other Windows utilities you might have running.

    Internet Explorer Problem

You should also try to clear any SPYWARE programs running. Some of them can cause all kinds of grief with browsers. Look for NEWDOTNET, DW, GATOR, GAIN in the task list. You might also get SPYSWEEPER. It finds all the spyware programs running in memory and on your hard drive.

Motherboard upgrade now ME does not find CD

When you install a new mainboard, Windows has to install all the OS required hardware drivers, which are found in Windows itself. So when you first start it up, it will go through a series of software installations. The most important software is the IDE controller. Until then, the CDROM is not...

    Explorer error

Sounds like the System Registry is corrupted or some critical VXD files are missing. A strong possibility is there might be a virus present. Several questions: - Did ME get installed as an UPGRADE or Full Version. You should be able to boot with the Full Version, but you have to setup the...

    WINDOWS ME CANNOT FIND DRIVERS

Your Windows 98 desktop problem was probably caused by a problem in the active desktop settings. The driver files you need are probably in the Recovery CD that you got with your laptop, more than likely not compatible with Windows ME. The basic drivers for USB are on the Windows ME CD. The...

    Internet Explorer giving me fits!

Have you checked on how much temporary file space you have available? It could be that you need to run a Disk Cleanup to remove Temporary Internet Files. Or if you are keeping too many tasks active, there might be a shortage of hard drive free space for swap files. Check the hard drive LED for...

Just installed Windows Me on a computer connected to a Windows NT 4.0 Server. The problem is when I boot up, it goes directly to desktop without an intervening network Logon screen. The Start Menu has "Log Off (blank)." I have to log off the blank user before I get the Enter Network...

    Explorer error in <unknown>

I keep getting "Explorer has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL" when I double-click on My Documents and other folders. I have not found any solutions yet. I have extracted both Explorer.exe and MSHTML.DLL from the .CAB files and no difference. I think I will upgrade to XP to see if the...

Could someone help me out please?........

Here is what I have done. First, let Norton AV or Mcafee clean the ones that are cleanable. Then, make a list of all the ones that are not, and let the AV program quarantine them. Next, try to locate good copies of any vital programs such as ones in any Windows subdirectory. You can get fresh...

    Defrag problem

Next time try the Defrag in Safe Mode. This will prevent any recurring disk changes which cause the program to restart.

Program window pops up on startup

The simplest way is to edit the registry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (or Run- or Runonce) and delete the Name of the unwanted program(s). This is accomplished by: Start/Run/Regedit commands then Highlight My Computer and do a Edit/Find (F3 till you...
