I was running windows 98 on a laptop when i ran into a dilemma. It was working fine until i came to restart later that evening and the desktop would not load anything up. After persistant attempts to reload i decided to install a copy of windows ME. After installation the desktop loaded up but everything i had on my desktop has disappeared which is no problem as they are still in program files. The major problem i have now is that win ME cannot detect drivers for PCI ethernet controller, PCI card, USB device, display or audio. can anyone advise me where to look as im trying to reinstall drivers on system program in control panel but its just not recognising any of them. HELP!!!

Your Windows 98 desktop problem was probably caused by a problem in the active desktop settings.
The driver files you need are probably in the Recovery CD that you got with your laptop, more than likely not compatible with Windows ME. The basic drivers for USB are on the Windows ME CD. The audio, display and PCI will have to be obtained from the manufacturer's website.
