Maybe you have an old bios and your CMOS is stuck. As a last-ditch effort I would remove both drives and let the CMOS register that there are no drives; then try installing them one at a time. As a final effort, maybe clearing the CMOS might help too. Don't do this unless you are completely...
I mean no disrespect but sounds like you're screwed. Try not to make changes that require the CD (just about anything involving system components) unless you have it...
When it asks for the cd, just hit ok, and see if it is looking for a specific file; if it is, do a search for that file, and...
I did a deep uninstall; not just add/remove, but trashing entire sections of the registry (Don't worry!)
NAV 7.6 doesn't have a protected recycle bin. Once all traces of norton were removed, I tried again. No dice.
BUT, finally, Jmatt's post held the answer! I am truly a stupid ass for not...
Try going into device manager and removing the device. Restart. Hopefully, when Windows restarts, it will (re)install the drive with the proper driver. Xp is pretty smart. Also, you could try "update driver", and tell it to look online at Windows Update & local driver files.
Sorry guys, some more info -
Ran SFC, restored defaults, nothing.
Ran ScanReg /restore - Restored the previous 4 days worth, sequentially; Nothing.
Can't use startup hotkeys on this OEM peice of junk.
Errors are as follows;

Things that apply to 95 usually apply to 98 as well (pretty dosshell!). How much memory do you have installed? Any chance it went south? If you do a search on google you can even find experts exchange topics on it.

Today, I tried to empty my recycle bin at work and got a BSOD. Now I can't delete anything; if I try to right click on the recycle bin, BSOD. If I so much as press delete, BSOD. I thought the recycle bin was located at C:/Recycled in Win98, but there's nothing there. I even tried to copy someone...
A few things -
1) CDMage will fix broken images; Make a copy first, 'cause CDMage fixes images in realtime. (sorta)
2) Did you right-click on the file to see what size it <really> is?
3) Did you try burning it? I had a 720MB .iso burn just peachy; it was only 678MB after burning; Quite a bit...
It sounds as if your hard drive is blowing sectors. ChDisk seems to be moving the data to another cluster; moving files around doesn't help if you just write to [another] failing cluster.
Listen to Wolluf and grab what you can, then throw the HD away (or give it to an enemy).
If you have 50...
If none of the above seem to work and re-installation isn't an option, try looking in the Services log to see if RasMan is starting okay. If not, try googling 'RasMan failures' (typically, this happens on W2K).
Did you ask mother Microsoft's permission? I heard that because of WPA and friends that if you change your config in a way that MS doesn't like that it will refuse to boot unless you (seriously) call them and explain it to them.
This is why some people bought Pro and turned it into Pro Corp.
No. The only way to get XP with SP1 enabled is to slipstream it yourself (or get it from someone that has). I slpistreamed SP1 into XP Pro a while back. It came in very handy after my system crashed.
My advice? Download it, slipstream it, test it, burn it, and then you will never have to bother...
Maybe you need to install the updates in a different order. I couldn't get DX runtime to install until I reinstalled DX9a. Likewise with the various MIE6.0 stuff. Maybe you are trying to download too many things at once.
