Modem Dialup Connection not an option in XP Pro

Hi,

I work for an ISP.
I was just talking with a customer who upgraded from XP home to XP professional.

He said that had deleted his dialup connection, and when he goes to set up a new connection, the option to connect to the internet via a modem is greyed out.

The only option available is to set up a broadband connection.

I asked the customer to look in the control panel and see if the modem is installed, and it is.

Has anyone encountered this?
I know that Dial Up Networking via a modem with XP Pro is possible.
It kind of blows my mind.

Thanks in advance!

I should also mention that in case you don't think that this customer should be mucking around in the registry, installing (or reinstalling) SP-1 will often cure this problem also.

Has he/she tried to uninstall/reinstall the modem?

If none of the above seem to work and re-installation isn't an option, try looking in the Services log to see if RasMan is starting okay. If not, try googling 'RasMan failures' (typically, this happens on W2K).
