On my XP machine some of the Windows update patches will not install they seem to download just fine but then fail to install.
Can anyone tell me where they are downloaded to, is it possible that a corrupt version has been downloaded to my HD and needs to be deleted before it will attempt to download a fresh version?

Maybe you need to install the updates in a different order. I couldn't get DX runtime to install until I reinstalled DX9a. Likewise with the various MIE6.0 stuff. Maybe you are trying to download too many things at once.

Well it's only a couple of "critical" patches here and there isn't a great load.

If you are using Windows Update via the Shortcut above the Start Menu then after your computer is scanned and update downloaded any installation failure will result in downloaded files being automatically deleted from Temporary Folders. You might find the failed download in your Temporay Internet Folder or even the System Restore Folder.

A better solution would be to grab the downloads you need from this Windows Update site and save them to disk.

Also if you follow the instructions on the normal update site you can configure it there to save downloads to disk.
