I have recently tried to install DirectCD but it corrupted the CDR driver that was setup automatically by Windows XP when it was first installed. Since my CDR drive is rather old, Windows XP already had a good driver for it.
I have uninstalled DirectCD but now, as soon as my PC boots up, windows XP tells me that some drivers have been disabled. When I try to use my CDR, it copies corrupt copies of the files I want to save. Is there a way I can restore the original driver that Windows XP had installed for my drive? I tried to use "Rollback driver" but it says there is nothing to roll back to.

Thanks.

Can you system restore to before installing DirectCD?

I don't know how to do that. I suppose I should have done some kind of system backup before installing DirectCD, but I did not.

Try going into device manager and removing the device. Restart. Hopefully, when Windows restarts, it will (re)install the drive with the proper driver. Xp is pretty smart. Also, you could try "update driver", and tell it to look online at Windows Update & local driver files.

I tried doing that but I am still getting a popup message when I boot up. The message reads:
'CD Recording Software' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading.

Any ideas about how to remove this "CD recording software"? It does not show up in the "Add/Remove programs" list.
