I performed an upgrade yesterday on an IP500V2 with 9508 phones from 8.1.95 to 10.1.6 . After the upgrade visual voicemail did not work. You could access the voicemail box by dialing *17 but when you attempted to access visual voicemail by the message button , the screen went blank with only the time/date/extension/missed call information on top. As well, when the home button was pressed to exit VV the a= call appearance label would disappear until the speaker button or handset was lifted. Downgrading the software to 10.l.3 resolved the issue. In case anyone else experiences this.
