Can anyone give me some advice on how to connect the USB modem onto an S8500 Media Server ? Is there a need for any license downloads.
What is needed to connect the modem other then the hardware

S8500 C.M 3

After plugging the modem into USB you need to enable it within the maintenance web pages, under "security" otherwise it will not answer

Thanks 4merlucent , but I have done exactly that , I test the modem in both modes and the result is a pass
when I try to enable it I get the following error

/usr/bin/sudo: no passwd entry for samp!
error: RunSampModCtl: "/opt/ecs/sys/sampmodctl -off" failed with status 0x100
error: processOffSAMP: RunSampModCtl -off command failed

I would greatly appreciate any assistance

call avaya - i have had that problem on the s8500.

have loaded 00.0.340.3-10678 for CM3(13x.00.0.340.3) and still this problem occurs. 4 of my s8500B server with modems loaded with out a problem. but the remaining 2 still have problem.

once again, call avaya. I tried many options and eventually they had to dial in and fix it.

Many Thanks for your replies .

I would be glad to call Avaya to fix the modem problem
but for them to look at the problem the modem must answer.

I assume no other modem will do the job either and
Avaya will not use P.C anywhere through a different modem.

Any further assistance would greatly appreciated once again Thanks for the replies

I'm trying this now. -

Product Correction Notice 1516P.
This software applies to the SAMP in the S8500B Media
Server only, regardless of the Communication Manager
release. This is not applicable to any other Media Server. This SAMP software must be upgraded during S8500B installation.

Resolves:
-A missing PPP section in the XML configuration file will no
-longer cause the modem server to block.
The virtual modem will no longer lock up when the server
or SAMP reboots. An application-layer keepalive
mechanism has been added to the client/server protocol.
This issue is resolved with the combination of Build 17 and
CM3.0.1 and later.

Thanks AvayaEng

You just beat me to it , I was going through the support pages and downloading PDF files , Patches etc .

The only part that worries me is that the service pack
must be done during installation , well I have all the
Translations already programmed and I am reluctant to
go back to a clean slate .

Many many thanks

I have successfully applied the pack to 1 of my servers although the Version ID: kernel-0.0450-root-0.0450 and not Version ID: AVAYA_S8500_1_0_SP2_BUILD_17.

Make sure you do a full backup first. and I think it should be done outside of working hours.

On my second server I said no as the version did not match. now when retrying the patch i get the following error:
Initiaing INP command kernel=2 root=6 timeout=300s
> echo QC0 0A 04 01 02 06 60 EA | /opt/inp/inpb -b
Error: command return is "142"
The SAMP rejected the new software. You should verify that
it is correct. The update has been cancelled.

I have downloaded the service pac below and downloaded it
only to be presented aith another error .

ftp://ftp.avaya.com/incoming/Up1cku9/tsoweb/commgr/samp-update-AVAYA_S8500_1_0_SP2_BUILD_17.tbz

The Error says that the file type is wrong and it must be a
file type of .tar

All out of ideas , Avaya site has posted the fix patch and the S8500 will not accept it .

hi

this is the right file. try the following commnds:

Telnet to 192.11.13.6 (service port)
Login in with dadmin/craft
Run “sampcmd samp-update status”

Version ID: kernel-0.0109-root-0.0109
Upload File to the server using web.

From Telnet Run “sampupdate”

If Version ID: kernel-0.0450-root-0.0450
Then Commit this software (Y/N)? Y

Do not install license file before setting up the SAMP card correctly!

Many Thanks For all your efforts and assistance

Cheers to ergouxzh and avayaeng
