SP4 on SQLServer200 and Windows2003

Hi Folks,

we got a strange behaviour on one box with win2003 and a SQL Server with SP4.

We have had 2 Servers. One on Win2000 with SQL SP4 and one on Win 2003 with initially SP3a.
I just copied the data from the first (Win2000 SQL SP4) to the second box with SQL Server Copy Wizard.
Now the new box freezes down and restart the SQL-Service many times a day.
Only information we got is the Number 7034.
We got the probably solution that SP4 is not tested with Win2003.
Dooes anyone have had the same or similiar problems on this ?
I will now clean install SP3/3a on Win2003.

I have a server running fine with SP4 and Win 2003 EE. Here are few things you can try.
1.) Rather than copying data, take a backup and restore.
2.) Uninsatll SP4 from Win2K3, Reinsatll SQL Server and upgrade to SP3a. Restore the DB and see weather you are having any issue, then upgrade to SP4.
This way it might help you to narrow down your issues.

The problem may be that the data was from SQL Server with SP4 and you were trying to put it on a SQL Server SP3a system. There may be issues with 'backwards compatibility' between SP's.

Or you should check the collations used on both systems. They should be the same.

I have heard of people having issues with restoring a database to another server that isn't the same level (SP version) or the collation (language, case-sensitivity, etc) isn't the same.

Thanks Bill,

that's what we also meant. The Backwards Compatiblity Problem.
But now I could not install the Instance I need. The installation quits if it tries to activate the service for the agent and the mssql$xxx. But only the neam I need and which was installed before. If I try a new name it works.
I checked the registry but no keys pointing to that name.
any further suggestions to this ?
