Is it generally a good idea to reboot the switch ones in a while? Will it help to clear unexplained problems? Rebooting sure works on PCs.
If yes, how long is a while?
Thank you

Yes, I can ping CLAN from the PC Call Accounting Software installed on. It is the same PC I'm using for access to the switch via ASA.

The software is waiting for the date from the switch, there is no problem there.
Below are two screen shots, maybe you will see something wrong there but I can't.

It shows 0 retries because I just removed and added the cdr. Before it was 999
Thank you

Is the firmware up to date on the CLAN? I had an issue with one drooping the link from time to time and firmware fixed it.

Zu56, have you restarted the PC your call accounting system is running on? If you have, have you restarted the "AVAYA Reliable Session Protocol" (if you have eCas, you will know what I am talking about)

Sometimes I have had to kick start those eCas systems to get them working again :)

You may want to physically re-seat the C-LAN board that you are using for your CDR link,

Kevin

*Yes, I set Reliable protocol to "y" and than to "n" the first time I had this problem. It helped the first time; the CDR link came up, but not this time.
*I will have to check the firmware on the CLAN, though have no idea how to upgrade it if it is outdated, but this is the next step. We bought CLAN about three years ago along with the new processor.
*Removing and reinserting the CLAN sounds like a good (and a simple) idea. I will try it right now.
Thank you every one for helping.
I appreciate this.

On a second thought, I will remove and reinsert the CLAN tomorrow morning, since it is used for communication between Definity and Audix. The only question is: do I need to busyout the CLAN or can I do it hot?
Thank you

The AVAYA Reliable Session Protcol I am talking about is in eCas, there is a program to start the commuication with the PBX... reseating the CLAN card is a good start, I would have thought you had already done that.

Mitch672, I do not have eCas, I use Cash+ and I thought you meant Reliable protocol option on the third page of ip-services screen, sorry.
Removing and reinserting the card - somehow I did not even thought of that, duh :~/.
Thank you

In case you do need to upgrade the firmware.

Well, reinserting the CLAN did not help.:-( Didn't make it worse either :-) (I'm trying to be optimistic)

I also noticed some confusion in terminology/definition here. I refer to the CDR link inside the switch, not to Call Accounting software that resides on a PC. At this point it is not important if the Call Accounting software on PC even running. I cannot make the switch to send Call Detail Records out.
Thank you

Zu56, there is no CDR link "inside the switch" it communicates (in general) over the CLAN card, to the Call Accounting system, via an IP connection... unless you have it setup old school, to use the RS232 serial port, if you have an older SI switch... even then, the CDR/RTS lines must be correct for the data to go out the serial port.

Sounds like you have an IP connection setup, so without your call accounting system running, the CDR link will be down...

can you ping the cdr pc from asa

I was not aware that the switch will take cdr link down if it does not see a connection to Call Accounting system. This may change the way I troubleshoot the problem. I will definitely find out more about it. Thank you

I do have IP connection set up and the software is up and running. How do I make sure that they both see each other?
Thank you

trying pinging the CLAN card from the PC (open a DOS session, ping x.x.x.x, which is the IP address of the CLAN), then try it from the switch to the PC (in ASA, "ping ip-address x.x.x.x board 01AXX") you will need the "board" addition if you have more than 1 CLAn card.

They both pass

The fact that "number of retries" is 0 is intersting

Can you try installing Avaya RDTT on your PC, set your IP address your pc to the same as the CDR PC disconnect this from the network and see if you get CDR info to your machine?

Number of retries was 0 because the screen shot was taken right after I reinstalled the cdr. Previously it was 999.
I am not familiar with RDTT. What is it and where can I get it?
Thank you
