Hi All,

First off and which you will probably tell from the question, I am a user and not a tech but I am trying to get the IP Office SoftConsole to installed and working on my laptop and via vpn.

The have an IP Office 4.06 4.2(4) and using office manager 6.2(4)on a Windows 2003 Server. I have PM Pro License, PM Pro IP Audio Enabled and Voicemail Pro. All have valid licences and PM Pro has available unused licence.

I have chosen my regular user in office manager software and changed the phone manager options to show PM PC Softphone and this was really the first question. Do I keep my existing account and just change this value or do I need to setup a new user just for roaming?

So then, I installed PM Pro & Softconsole from the disk. Both installed without a hitch. Then, while connected to the LAN locally via Cat5 (regular active directory network) I open up the soft console (4.2.9). I browse to the local ip address for the IP 406 DS, choose that and then browse to my name and select, enter password and then hit ok and I get an error message that "No licenses are available", hit OK and it closes.

While trying to follow the same procedure while connected to the network via vpn, I get and error "No control units found". Should IP Office have a public ip address which points to the LAN using NAT?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

softconsole is the operator app. you probably dont have any licenses for it or they are in use.

fire up phone manager and log in as the user you have enabled pc softphone on.

im sure you will notice a difference :-)

Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

SoftConsole is only used with a phone and it requires a SpftConsole License

Thanks Guys. Maybe I am confused with this whole thing. All I want to do is be able to make calls from my laptop when I am out of town. Can anyone push a link on how to/best practice for my situation? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

well you have everything in place.

phone manager installed.
licenses enabled.

create a new USER with a new extn number and name and phone manager password. remove the phone manager license from the old user and assign to the new user.

when you create the user and are asked "do you want to create a voip extn for this user select yes.

then log in as this user.

once you have that working we can tune the settings.

In the "User" settings, go to the "Phone Manager Options" tab and set Phone Manager Type to "PC SoftPhone". SoftConsole is another app entirely, designed for an operator console. The Phone Manager software is the same for Lite, Pro, and SoftPhone - which one is used is set in the description above.
Once you've logged into Phone Manager, go to Tools->Phone Manager and put a check next to "VoIP".

So I followed your instructions, created a new user (with voip) and logged in to PM PC Softphone and there are signs of life...

Once logged in, I go to "Make Call" and enter a number in this format 912128675309 and press call. I hear a dial tone and then nothing. Few seconds later, I hear a dial tone for a second or two and nothing and it keeps going like that but the call never goes through. The speaker volume and Mic volume are both set on high for the time being but oddly enough, the dial tone is played on my laptop speakers and not the bluetooth headphone. It does the same thing when bluetooth is disconnected.

Also, trying to call the extension number directly just rings.

Appreciate the time you guys are taking to respond. Thanks.

in phone manager click on the spanner

go to the phone manager tab and tick enable voip

under usb settings tick ring on usb

Hi Tom,

I had the enable voip on already but the ring on usb is greyed out.

you do have vcm channels dont you?

Sorry Tom. I'm lost on that one. Could you put it in laymans terms?

vcm = Voice compression Channels.

they are needed for ip phones/softphones to work.

are you familiar with system monitor?

I can get into it, no problem. What you need?

run monitor and let it run through its initial checks, then look for this line

PRN: LAW=A PRI=1, BRI=0, ALOG=0, ADSL=0 VCOMP=4, MDM=0, WAN=0, MODU=2 LANM=0 CkSRC=9 VMAIL=1(VER=3 TYP=1) CALLS=4(TOT=17449)

if VCOMP=0 you dont have any. if it has a number then thats how many channels you have

1803594688mS PRN: LAW=U PRI=1, BRI=0, ALOG=4, ADSL=0 VCOMP=0, MDM=0, WAN=0, MODU=1 LANM=0 CkSRC=1 VMAIL=1(VER=3 TYP=1) CALLS=0(TOT=6415)

This is what I found and VCOMP=0. Does this mean I cant use it? If so, what do I have to do to use it?

to use it you need to get a VCM card, who installed the system? where in the world are you? do you have a bp?

I'm in Atlanta. I could use a recomendation if you have one. We've been flying solo since it was put in.

Thanks again to everyone who posted with ideas to help. It is a great thing to have a resource like this for the small things and leave the bigger theings to the pro's!

im on a little island called england. but if you want to cover the travel i will help :-)

one of the guys from the states here will be able to help you out.

but you need a vcm card and an hour or so or programming and training and you are good to go.

Cheers Tom. I'm from Wales so perhaps I'll throw it in a suitcase next time I'm home for the rugby!!!
