Hey guys,

I'm at a new customer site and have been surprised that there is a pagin solution in place.

IPO only has analogue station ports but no analogue trunk ports.

What we have now on site is a Valcom 9963 digital feedback eliminator and a Valcom 9964 stacking feedback eliminator. There is also a Valcom VIP800 but it seems that it has been disconnected for a while since there is no power supply connected...

I never ever used paging systems so far so I have to ask if it is possible to get it to work on an analogue station port.

Thank you for your help!

It should work with an analog port programmed as a page port, but you will need an isolation transformer like the VMT-2 as the IPO will put a DC voltage on the page port. Program a short code with Dial paging as the action and the extension as the telephone number, or create a button.

If I don't have one I need to use a trunk port, right?

The 9963 and 9964 are used for stacking recordings in a digitized order. The VIP 800 is used to connect to a single zone on an IP networked paging system. Here is a DOC link to the PDF for each item if it helps.

Documentation says when hooking to a KEY or PBX that only a page port or CO port can be used but for a CO port you will need a VIP 810 to interface the phone system and the VIP800. If using an analog station you will need a VIP 820 to interface it.

Check the notes and diagram section of the VIP 800 link I provided.

You can use a trunk port. There is a switch on the valcom to turn on the talk battery if it isn't already on. Usually the feedback eliminators are on a trunk port, as the only advantage of using a station port is the ability to add them to page groups with other extensions.

Thank you so far.

I think I will need further equipment.

@budbyrd
I don't have a trunk port in the system. We use PRI trunks and only have a bunch of analogue station ports.

OK... If we get the VMT-2 how do I connect it to the analogue station port?

I would the input connection has to be connected with the IPO port. But do I just need the +/- connectors or do I have to use the CT connector in one way.

Sorry for these stupid questions. I never ever used paging systems before.

Just the +/-. I have never seen a use for the center tap.
Here is a link to the manual. You may need to adjust some of the dip switches depending what they had it connected to on the old system. If it used to be connected to a trunk port turn off the talk battery. Change from loop start to audio detect.
