Ok so this is my first IP500 install and likewise my first 4.0.x install as well after years working with IP400 hardware.

IP500 with or without and station cards boots through the regular LED sequence but instead of going solid green it goes to blinking red.

I first tried without smart card since we had not yet received it and of course it would not but as evidenced in my DTE port monitor saying "No SmartCard installed" or something like that. After installing the smart card system appears to boot and no noticeable error conditions showed in the DTE monitor, yet still blinking red.

SmartCard received. Serial matches the license file for all the licenses this system is getting (which is a bright lot I'll tell ya).

I have done multiple power cycles and resets via the reset button on the back of the IP500. I did the 5-10 and 10-30 second resets but was not quite sure if doing the 30-40 (erase core software) was the best thing to do.

When in Manager it detects the system and I can even pull the current (albeit non-functioning) config from the unit but when going into the Upgrade tool, it detects the unit but is grayed out with no available versions listed. I have the proper bin files in their proper directly.(brand new manager 4.0 install)

my gut is telling me that they sent the right card from a serial number stand point but failed to properly enable the smartchip on it.

any ideas here?

th card does not matter. any card can go in any IPO. it sounds like you dont have teh right directories in manager. You should be able to fire it up and upgrade right away. point your working dir to C;program files/Avaya/IP Office/ Manager and you should be good

Yes, on a related note, I've also noticed that the nice new version of manager 4.0.10 seems to point my working directories to nothing (they're blank) on a fresh install. Once you manually point it to C:\program files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager, then all is fine.

I would check your firewall is off OR the batch has been run at the very least.

Also Go to file, Change working directory.

Check this is in your entries C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager (Default location of install)

Also check you still have an ip500 bin in the above directory.

i had my setup source folder as a similar path to the default installed folder so at first glance it appeared that I had it pointed to the right location for the bin files.

why avaya decided to not provide the default folder paths with 4.0 manager is a puzzler? Also the quick reference guide for setting up the IP500 shows that the processor LED should already be solid green BEFORE starting the upgrade and does not mention that you have to manually set the folder path for the bin files. These are mostly just documentation oversights but for everyone trying to learn new hardware for the first time it is a bit annoying.

In the end, glad it was something simple like operator error and not any hardware or software problems.

Thanks for the help.

Its the best way to learn something, having your face burned off by a customer who is waiting for his system to go live on Monday morning but having to wait till tuesday cause you cannot figure out what is wrong with it.

Your face will only be burned off once!

yup, but now i know and definitely won't happen again and I fortunately have enough lead time that it's only my own head smacking i have to deal with, no customer face burned.
