I suspect that someone in our office is eavesdropping on calls made by another employee. Is there a way to have one extension listening to another's conversation without the victim knowing?

yes it is possible. its not something that is turned on by default. i would have to see a config to know if it is set up

It would have to have been programmed through Manager. A user cannot give themselves permission to listen to another caller. The user trying to listen would need permission to listen and the user being listened to would need settings set so they could be listened to. By default, the system is set against these settings. Also, by default the caller being listened to would hear a beep when the other user joined the call. Again, this setting can be taken away so ne beep is heard, but not by the user. Only by the admin. So, I doubt they are listening unless they have access to the admin software.

Wow! Thanks so much for your prompt responses.
Interesting. It is possible that this employee had instructed the people installing the system years ago to set it up that way - that he can monitor others' converstation. I need to check this and turn it off. (For reference x117 is the listener and x118 is the victim being monitored.)x118 does not hear any beeps.
How can I check this out? How can I see the config? Where is this set up? I have full access to the software. Is there anything I can show you to help me better?
I really appreciate your help with this.

In Manager, the System Telephony Tab will allow you to check/uncheck whether the caller hears a beep.

under each user, under telephony, you'll see the tabs for can intrude and cannot be intruded. Make sure can intrude is not checked for x117 and cannot be intruded is checked for x118.

Thanks for your response.
I attached a word doc with three screen shots. (I hope you see it. This is the first time I am trying an attachment.)
System Telephony, User Telephony, and a short code. I don't see anywhere that would allow x117 to tap into x118. x118 feels strongly that x117 is listening. Is there somewhere else to check?
Again, I really appreciate your help!

These are the ONLY settings that will allow it:

Hey, you guys are great!
I found the one extension that allowed intrude which is the one he used to get in. (It was not x117 - it was another extension.)
It is now unchecked and I also checked "Do not allow intrusion" for x118.
Thanks very much again.
