I am trying to connect my IP 500 LAN2 port to my cable modem for internet access. My cable modem is set to passthrough and my LAN2 port is set to client but no internet. LAN1 is set up as DHCP server and the DNS info has been added. Should I see my public IP in the greyed out fields on the LAN2 tab?? What am I missing??

Thanks

You will also need an Ip route adding to the system to send the data out via the modem :)

I've just bought a brand new car and on the way out of the dealership the engine seized, they want £2000 paid in advance to look at it which they will keep if they can find a way to blame me for it......Remind you of anything :)

Clue.....try this:

IP addess: 0.0.0.0
Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: Blank
Destination: LAN2

When I put 0.0.0.0 in as the gateway it shows a red next to the gateway field?

yes you should see the public IP in there if DHCP gave it an address. Did you reboot the cable modem? They are MAC based and usually only work with 1 MAC address. what happens when you plug a PC into the modem?

Sorry, ignore that....what does the error pane show against the Red X? You may need to add a valid gateway address if it's set the DHCP Client, I have never tried that :)

When I zero out the gateway field the error says : "The IP address entered is outside of the destination LAN subnet range" My LAN2 tab IP address and Mask are grayed out but still shows 192.168.43.1 255.255.255.

Just ignore the warning and try it, or try and find out the actual gateway the modem talks to and add that in there, but if it's not getting an IP address correctly it may still alarm :)

Delete the iproute and try again.
It just sometimes not take it if you change it.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Hello,
I have a similar problem. the R6 manager does not allow the gateway to be set to blank (on ok it sets gw ip to 0.0.0.0).
Does anyone know how to handle this?

0.0.0.0 is a blank entry as far as the system is concerned, it may alarm that it's outside the subnet range but it will still work. But why aren't you putting the gateway address in, as you don't need a route entry for local traffic it does that automatically, IP routes are for routing non local traffic and so you should know the gateway address :)

I just want to route all outside LAN1 data to LAN2.
I can't seem to make it work.

erm, if you are using LAN2 as a route to the internet and you are using LAN1 for your private network, you will need to enable NAT on LAN2

Indeed, as HSM says but also that must be the only 0.0.0.0 route in the system or they clash and stop it working :)
