Ive got a customer with a avaya ip 500 that for some reason seems to freeze twice a day forabout 5 minutes. Its gota VCM 32 and 20 1608 handsets. Its running 5.0.22 firmware.

When it happens all the handsets lose thier calls and if they try todial there are no keypad tones the dialing tone just wavers as the keys are pressed. Incoming calls seem to work fine while this is going on.

System manger reports no outages and a trace seems fine as well, no errors. The problem clears itself after about 5 minutes. Also I cant connect to system status while its going onbut the trace still runs.

Seeings as the phone system seems to know nothing about it Im thinking it could be a virus on the network taking up traffic, anyone else got any ideas?

Use the second LAN port and see if it makes any difference.

Its possible that its a faulty lan port, I'll give it a shot after the customer has virus scanned every pc.

Any other ideas?

Tlpeter, I know mate I've had one with a faulty before. If it was faulty then the trace would fail as well and incoming calls wouldnt work.

I have seen cases where moniter kept working but the phones stopped working.
It was a bad LAN port.

plug1...

Have you been able to determine if there is a trend at all in user activity around the time of the system locking up? IE, usage of a particular feature button or activity on the system?

I know there were some issues with call-park causing system lock-ups and reboots in the pre 5.0.22 loads. Just a thought to throw in the mix.

I'm going to site tomorrow, it happens at 11:20am ish each day so I'll be there to see what's going on with my trusty packet sniffer!!

I'll keep you posted.

This appears to be resolved, it seems to be an issue with the latest 5.x firmware on a version 1 box, I downgraded it to 5.0.15 and all has been well since!!

Interesting, I've also got an IPO 500v1 on 5.0(22) which is rebooting about twice a day, looks as though it could be a software problem
