Could someone remind me how to use an ADU to connect to a G3?

I have a release 6 and the administrator wants to access via ADU because the modem is tied up with another function.

I have the ADU datamod built and connected but don't know how to get the "login" prompt.

Thanks.

Anyone ?

I've searched for ADU on this site and found no help. I've searched the old Avaya docs and can't find anything either.

Just wondering how the ADU gets the login prompt.

ADU is used to extend an RS-232 signal greater than 50'. IS that what you are doing? Sounds like you need to be using an 8400b data module to do admin from your desk.

Yes, that's what we're doing. The ADU has been in place for years. The PC that was running ASA was replaced and I cannot find what the procedure the ADU uses to "dial" in the Netcon hunt group, or whatever it does to get the login prompt.
I'd prefer a regular datamod but since it was working I'd like to know how it was working.

An ADU doesn't dial anything. It's just extends rs-232 over long distance. Press enter and the login prompt comes up. Which are you doing? Extending the rs-232 from the back of the switch (terminal port) via an ADU OR are you trying tp use a 7400b/8400b data-module to dial the netcon channels and connect via a DCP port?

I was pretty sure that's all it sis was to extend the RS-232 signal. I thought it was connected to a TN726 not the terminal port because we have a SAT on the terminal port.
I'll have to trace it back.

It is a direct connection to the terminal port on the switch. 9600/7n1 or 9600/8n1 on the com port and you should get a login prompt when you hit enter. That's it. Unless the adu connects to a data-mod hidden in another room. In that case, you would need to dial via "atdt 1234" where 1234 is the netcon hunt group.

Been a long time have worked on ADU but yes, An ADU can be used to connect to the netcon channel. All that you'll have to do is to connect the ADU on the data line card. & have an terminal emulator application. I used terranova with ADU. I use to make the data extension as a hotline to the netcon channel. & send the break signal to connect. the processing after this step was normal (you get login prompts etc..) This is what I could recall from my memory, hope this would help.. BTW what is the state of the data extension (for ADU) when it is connected on RS232 port of machine.

Thanks. I don't know what I was missing on the ASA settings but it worked right away. State was "connected".
