After two recent Windows Updates I find that my folder view settings, which were "Large Icons", revert to "List" upon rebooting. I specify "remember each folders settings - yes" but no luck.
How can I get Windows2000 to remember?

The customization is stored as a HTML description page, folder.htt (a hidden file).

You need active desktop enabled: right-click the desktop, point to Active Desktop, and then click Show Web Content.

Tried Active Desktop. No luck. My folder's view is still "List" not "Large icons" on reboot. I had this same problem with Windows 98SE too after a recent update. Then on the next update the problem went away. Unfortunately it didn't work that way with Windows 2000. I really don't want Web content shown in the folder anyway. The Windows Classic look is fine for this particular purpose.

Set the BagMRU Size to 5000 (or upto 8000) in the following registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam

I got the following tip from Computing.Net and it worked:

Just before you close the folder..
Hold down the "CTRL" key and hit the X in the top right hand corner. This should save the setting for next time.

Hope this helps

The question now is why does it work like this now - it was not like this before.

Customizations are handled in a FIFO buffer. Just make the buffer big enough to start with.

Sorry to say I am still bugged by this business of my folder setting not being saved. I hate to hold the CTRL key down while exiting. However I don't find BagMRU in my registry. I am running Windows 2000 Professional SP4 on a Dell Latitude CPt laptop.
