@tlpeter, @amriddle01:

In the next week or so, I'm going to be tasked with adding approximately 300 phone numbers, for which each I'll need to assign a speed dial. I'm told I'll receive a spreadsheet of names and DID numbers. From that, I'm hoping to just add the necessary columns for extension/speed dial# and import the information.

We're on IPO v9 and I'm finding conflicting info here regarding mass importing of directory info. Is the functionality still possible?

I promise I've made good use of the F1 and/or Help functions, but I seem to come away with more questions than answers.

Halp!

They need to work the way the system works, not the other way around. The speed dial index numbers are fixed :)

However if those are the actual numbers and they are in fact sequential, then this is easily achieved with a single shortcode and omitting the 5xxx number from the import. It also removes the need for a prefix, so it appears they are just dialling the extn number direct :)

You know the old adage: "Advice: the question you ask when you know the answer, but want a different one." :)

Thank you.

If you ditch their 4 digit index number and just import the directory name and tel number, then add the following shortcode to the system:

SC - 5XXX
Feat - Dial
Tel number - 917175555N

Then you're good to go :)

With the above a user just dials 5580 and it will ring 917175555580 and display "Joe Giulivo" on the screen :)

Possibly some commas separating those fields will help?

Two csv files actually : one directory csv holding the name and external number and one shortcode csv with the four digit number as shortcode and the external number as telephone number

Just now having time to come back and work on this... thanks for some great suggestions.

Incredibly, the list of 457 DIDs has no recurring last-4 dights (helps that they're spread over 5 NPA-NXXs).

Since we use 2XX for internal extensions, do you folks suggest I modify the exiting short code to wait for a four digit for the new 2XXX extensions?

The system will not hold off dialling extns, as soon as it matches it'll ring the extn.... Unless you force dial delay count and set it to 4 and then you need to consider dial delay timer or they will not have time to hit the 4th digit :)

@amriddle01 - I'm stuck having to use their 4-digit extensions --which just happens to be the last-4 of their phone numbers-- as they're pretty adamant about people being able to dial the proffered extensions in people's email signatures.

As ugly as manually mapping 460 phone numbers would be, can you think of a way I can give them their 4-digit extensions and just hide the directory index mapping-to-DID behind the scenes?
