AVAYA 9508 Initial Start up configuration

I'm having an issue with an AVAYA 9508 demo phone my company is testing for future use. All I'm doing is taking to an already working cubicle, unplugging an old phone, and plugging in the new one to test it and see how it works. However I only get a brief screen flash of "Please Wait" and then a solid, black line accross the screen.

Here's a picture for reference:
What am I doing wrong? IP Office is one version 10.0 (44). I've got an RG11 cable going into the phone. Does this phone only work with RJ45?
 
It either needs upgrading and/or you have it plugged in to an analogue port I guess :)

 
Indeed, it cannot find the firmware.
An analog port only provides power on a digital phone thus the screen will show almost nothing.

Then it's probably just a firmware issue, what version chassis do you have? A 500 v1 ? Is the system actually 8.0.44 or is 10.0.44 just the version of Manager you have? :)

 
The phone needs firmware provided by a tftp server.
The ip500v1 does not have one by default while the ip500v2 does.

Sorry I'm just a tech, still learning the ins and outs of our system.

Looks like the version of Manager is 10.0.44.

The firmware version of our server is 5.0 (20).

Not sure where to check for the "version chassis".
 
We'll try upgrading the server then. Thanks everyone for the support.
 
You'll need a licence first and there are many other considerations, you'll be sorry if you just upgrade off the bat :)
