I wonder if anyone could help,

The call centre that I work in, requires that a mandatory building wiring check is carried out in the near future and a consequence of this is that the Definity G3si must be powered down and then brought back up.

I understand having read some of the replies on the forum, that it is important to power down the audix system first. Does anyone have a procedural doc for this process, or can anyone advise?

Thanks

Goto the avaya site ( and look for installation and maintenance documents in the support area.

The information you need is in document 555-233-123.

Note:

The procedures for removing power vary depending on the system configuration.

Depends on the Audix

For Definity Audix..at the command prompt... reset system shutdown. When you see "system shutdown complete" pull the voice mail card and then shut down the phone system.

If Intuity Audix...login as sa or craft...go to customer service administration/system management/system control/shutdown system...when you see "system down..press CTRL.ALT.DEL to reboot system...power down Intuity Audix and then phone switch.

When you bring the system back up...turn on phone system cabinets in reverse...eg carrier c then b, then a, so that the processor sees the other cabinets before it starts the boot up process. Once the switch and stations are up, insert the Definity Audix Voicemail back into the switch or power the Intuity Audix back on and wait for them to finish booting. Remember, do not login to the first login prompt, you see on the Audix voicemail, as it is a UNIX login and not the administrator login. Also after 5 minutes, if you do not see a login prompt, hit enter and it will appear for you.

Hope that helps

well done Netcon1 but read the document as well.

Other issues as SREPN, TN802, etc. are mentioned in this document.

It all depends on you system. Plan your work............Work your plan

Here are instructions my team developed for our in-house administrators:

G3i, G3s, G3si--

Power DOWN procedure:

Step 1: Save PBX configuration to PBX flashcard. Bypass this step if instructed by Avaya or your Regional Telecom team.
(1.1) Log in to the PBX by typing your login name and pressing <enter>, your password <enter>, and at the terminal prompt simply press <enter>.
(1.2) At the command line, type "save trans" and press <enter>. In the top left corner of the screen, you will see "Please Wait" flashing while the save is being performed. Once complete, the screen should indicate "SPE-A Success". Please notify Avaya or your Regional Telecom team immediately if any other result is obtained.

Step 2: Save Announcements, if applicable. Bypass this step if instructed by Avaya or your Regional Telecom team.
(2.1) From the command line, type "list config all" and press <enter>. Scroll through the entries to find any boards listed as "Announcement" in the "Board Type" column. Use the <Prev Page> and <Next Page> keys (located above the cursor or "arrow" keys on the keyboard) to scroll through the screens. If all of the announcement boards are listed as "TN750C" or greater in the "Code" column AND "000008" or greater in the "Vintage" column, or if there are no announcement boards listed, then saving announcements is not required and you may proceed to step 3. Otherwise, note the value listed in the "Board Number" column for each announcement board that does not meet these code and vintage requirements and continue to step 2.2. The board number will be a value such as "01A11".
(2.2) Press <Cancel> (which is the forward slash key located on the number pad on the right side of the keyboard) to end the list config command issued in step 2.1 and then remove the flashcard from the PBX by pulling it straight out. The flashcard is typically located in the bottom carrier, or cabinet. You will need a standard slotted screwdriver to turn the retaining screw a quarter turn clockwise in order to open the carrier's front cover. Each announcement board must be saved to its own flashcard. Insert the flashcard to be used for the first board. From the command line, type "save ann from XXXXX", where "XXXX" is the value of the first announcement board found in step 2.1, and press <enter>. The cursor will flash in the top left corner of the screen while the command executes. The screen will indicate "SPE-A Success" when it completes. Please notify Avaya or your Regional Telecom team immediately if any other result is obtained. Remove this flashcard and label it with the announcement board number. Repeat this step, using a different flashcard for each announcement board, until all announcement boards noted in step 2.1 have been saved. This process can take up to 40 minutes per board to complete, and no system administration commands can be executed during this period. When finished, replace the original flashcard (used in step 1.2 above) in the PBX.

Step 3: Power down the voice mail system (instructions contained in a separate document) and all adjuncts. Some examples of adjuncts would be CDR Pollable Storage Units (SSR.NET or PS680), BCMSVu Server, CMS Server, etc. This document does not contain the procedures to power down adjuncts.

Step 4: Locate the PPN (Processor Port Network) carrier and log out of the PBX.
(4.1) The PPN is the primary carrier and an EPN, or Expansion Port Network, is any additional carrier attached to the system. Together, the PPN and EPNs comprise the PBX. The carrier designated as the PPN should be indicated on the cover removed in step 2.2 above with the words "Processor Port Network". Typically this is the bottom, or "A" carrier and generally is the one that houses the flashcard. If you are unsure as to which carrier is the PPN, at the command line type "list config all" and press <enter>. Scroll through the pages just as in step 2.1 and look for an entry called "PROCESSOR" in the "Board Type" column. When you find it, note the value in the "Board Number" column. This will be a value such as "01A". The letter in this value, "A" in our example, indicates which carrier is the PPN. The carriers are labeled "A", "B", "C", etc beginning from the bottom.
(4.2) Press <Cancel>, as described in step 2.2, and at the command line type "logoff" and press <enter>.

Step 5: Power down the PPN first, followed by any EPNs in your configuration. The power switch is located next to the power cord on the back of each carrier in the top left corner. On large large cabinets, the switch is behind the panel on the bottom front of the cabinet. Be sure to power off all EPNs.

Power UP procedure:

Step 1: Power up all EPNs as identified step 4 of the Power Down Procedures above.

Step 2: Power up the PPN as identified step 4 of the Power Down Procedures above.

Step 3: Restore Announcements, if applicable (i.e. if a save was required during the Power Down Procedures above).
(3.1) Log in to the PBX by typing your login name and pressing <enter>, your password <enter>, and at the terminal prompt simply press <enter>.
(3.2) Insert the first flashcard containing announcements (from step 2.2 in the Power Down Procedures). From the command line, type "restore ann to 01A11" or where "01A11" is the original announcement location noted on the flashcard. Press <enter>. The next screen warns you that this command will overwrite the existing announcements on the specified board. If you are sure that you have typed the correct board number for this flashcard, press <enter> (use the <enter> on the number pad on the right side of the keyboard). If you are unsure of the board number, press <cancel> (which is the forward slash key located on the number pad on the right side of the keyboard) and remove the flashcard to verify the board number noted on it. Repeat this step for each announcement board. As with saving announcements, this step can take up to 40 minutes per board.

Step 4: Power up the voice mail system (instructions included elsewhere) and all adjuncts. Log out of the PBX by typing "logoff" and pressing <enter>.

And if you also have an Intuity Audix involved, the standard procedure is to bring down your Intuity FIRST (before the PBX), and then bring it up AFTER your PBX has been brought back up. Here are the instrux for good measure:

Intuity Power DOWN procedure:

Step 1: Log into the Audix.
(1.1) At the "Console Login" prompt, type "sa" and press <enter>, type the password (provided by your Regional Telecom team) and press <enter>, and at the "TERM=[AT386]?" prompt, simply press <enter>. This will take you to the Intuity Main Menu.
Step 2: Backup the Audix to the tape or Jazz drive. Bypass this step if instructed by Avaya or your Regional Telecom team.
(2.1) From the Intuity Main Menu, use the arrow or cursor keys to move the highlight bar over "Customer/Services Administration" and press <enter>. This will take you to the Customer/Service Administration submenu.
(2.2) Use the arrow or cursor keys to move the highlight bar over "Backup/Restore" and press <enter>. The Backup/Restore submenu will appear.
(2.3) If necessary, use the arrow or cursor keys to move the highlight bar over "Backup" and press <enter>. This will take you to the Backup Options submenu. Accept the default settings by pressing F3 on the keyboard.
(2.4) Depending upon the type a removable media drive your system has, the system will prompt you to either "insert a tape into the tape drive.." or "insert a cartridge disk". Simply press <enter> to continue.
(2.5) The backup process will begin and various system message strings will scroll across the screen. This process can take anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes depending upon the size of the system. When the backup has completed, the last system message will read "Backup completed successfully" followed by "Press Enter to continue". Press <enter> and it will return you to the Backup Options submenu.
(2.6) Pressing F6 backs you out of the submenus. Press F6 twice to return to the Customer/Services Administration menu and proceed to step 3.
Step 3: Gracefully shut down the Audix.
(3.1) From the Customer/Services Administration menu, use the arrow or cursor keys to move the highlight bar over "System Management" and press <enter>. This will take you to the System Management submenu.
(3.2) Use the arrow or cursor keys to move the highlight bar over "System Control" and press <enter>. This will take you to the System Control submenu.
(3.3) If necessary, use the arrow or cursor keys to move the highlight bar over "Shutdown System" and press <enter>. The Shutdown Form will appear. Type "60" in the "Wait Time" field and press F3 to "save", or initiate, the shutdown process.
(3.4) When the software shutdown has completed, the screen will give you the prompt to "Press any key to reboot". Rather than pressing a key to reboot, press the power switch on the front of the Audix machine to complete the power down.

Power UP procedure:

Step 1: Press the power button located on the front of the Intuity Audix machine.
(1.1) As the machine boots, you will see a series of system messages scroll across the screen. After approximately five minutes, you will be taken to the console login screen.
(1.2) Even though you are at the console login screen, the system has not completed booting yet. Do not login. After a few minutes, more system messages will scroll across the screen. You will eventually be taken to the console login screen a second time. This is the last visual indicator of the boot process.
Step 2: Test link to PBX.
(2.1) The fastest way to verify that the link to the PBX has been established is to simply press the "Vmail" button, or dial the vmail access ("welcome to Audix") extension, on the nearest phone.
(2.2) If you press the vmail button as indicated in step 2.1 above and you receive a busy signal, then the link has not been established. Please wait five minutes and repeat the test. If you again receive a busy signal, wait five more minutes and repeat the test. If you still receive a busy signal, contact your Regional Telecom team for assistance.

Wow...! Thanks Guys, I am a little over-whelmed by all your help! That's great, thanks again for all your assistance.

Hi guys,
On a related note I have a remote site with a definity G3r and they had an unscheduled power outage. The system has came back up no probs but the definity audix isnt functioning. When I try to log into the system it just hangs. When I do list config all it shows a conflict on two boards one is reserved for audix and the other is actually audix.
When I do a test board it sates that no board is present. How can I recover from this remotely without going to site? John

If you let the customer shut Audix down (via het button on the front), pull the audix out and replace it again ther's chance you don't have to go there.

Normally with this kinds of errors you should go on site. Plan your work............Work your plan
