I have read a few older posts about this and thought the latest software upgrade would correct, but no, my 5621 is still an expensive nightlight. Has anyone successfully turned off the backlight in a non-violent fashion?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

IP500 - 4.2(11)

Everything will be OK in the end.
If it's not OK, then it's not the end

You need to set it in the 46xxsettings.txt file
Your phone will pull that by tftp

You need to erase the "##" in front of the line SET BAKLIGHT 120 and change the 120 in the amount of minutes you like

My apologies, I should have stated that I have done that as well and still have a backlight. I changed it to 2 minutes.
I guess a better question would be how can I be sure that the firmware is the latest on the 5621. Our Avaya tech performed all of the updating of the software and I was not here with him when he did the update.

The phone needs the latest firmware

You can check it by going in to the menu or press hold and type "view" (8438)

It wasn't working on 4.2.4 but it is on 4.2.11 and
their corresponding bin files for the 5621 Phone (something like 8016 instead of 2887).
A collegue of my tested it on my behalf on a site a lot of 5621 that wouldn't turn off the backlight untill upgraded to 4.2.11 and 8016 for the phone itself.

It has the correct bin files - I guess I will have to give out a dark colored dish towel to the user to throw over it at night.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Edit the 46xxsettings.txt file (search in the default file for 'bak') and delete the ## and the space.
It should be SET BAKLIGHTOFF 10 (for 10 mins and the BAK instead of BACK isn't a type error)
Then restart the phones and make sure it's getting the file that you just edited.
It should work. It made our customer happy last week.

Ok have to resurrect this one, I was mistaken the 5621SW does not have the correct firmware. That being said how do I get it to recognize and flash the correct firmware update?

To further clarify the 46xxsettings.txt file reads SET BAKLIGHT OFF 2

This phone has sat in our server room since Nov due to the backlight issue and I would love to have it vacate the space it occupies.
