Thank you for this information. I will certainly give your suggestions a try. This is the first time I have ever encountered this problem in years of working with computers.
I would not have known about these files had I not been backing up the files on my external drive to DVDs. Once the...
No, these are files I saved to my hard drive. For example, if you save an e-mail from Hotmail, the mail comes in two parts....an e-mail and a folder containing various Hotmail files. These are not on my main hard drive, but stored on an external hard drive with no OS on it.
When doing a backup there were a list of files that could not be included. Checking these files, I found that 1) they had no properties, 2) were undeletable, and 3) were unmovable.
One was 0806_erelfree3360_468x60.gif (was in a Hotmail e-mail folder), hp_120x60-hp-5-an.gif (was in a folder...
Thank you ALL for your help. Unfortunately, I was not able to recover my overwritten file. It was a lesson hard-learned. Now, I'll just have to start over again rewriting the copy.
XP sure is different from Win 98 SE.....I think I could have recovered it if I still were using my old OS.
I...
Yes, I checked the Recycle Bin, but of course it was not there, as I had not deleted the file, I accidentaly overwrote it with an earlier version of the same file. Would System Restore also restore data? I thought that was just for corrupted Windows system files ???
I need to recover an overwritten .html file I was working on in Front Page. I had saved the first index.html file, and then later added about 200-300 words of text. I did save the updated file with the additional text. When I was exiting the program, apparently an earlier version of the same...
Thanks...but I'm afraid that didn't help. No files turned up. I'm sure the data is still on the hard drive. The file that overwrote it had the same identical text at the top, it is just the 200+ words that I added at the bottom of the home page that I need to retrieve, if at all possible.
Last night I was working on a home page in MS Front Page. I had saved the file, and had spent a lot of time on the text. When I shut the program down, I was asked if I wanted to save the file, which puzzled me somewhat, but I said OK...and it turns out that all my text that I had added to the...
It is easy to do this. With one IE screen already on your desktop, just click on the blue "e" icon in your taskbar or on your desktop again, and another IE screen comes up. You will then have two separate Internet Explorer "pages."
Well, BigBad, I have a brand new motherboard, etc. and I am having same problem. System just freezes and I have to hit the reset button. Also, sometimes it boots up and sometimes it doesn't. Am going to follow this thread and hope something turns up.
I am having the same problem. I will take the advice and run Ad-Aware. We are at a loss as to how to get my OS working again without having to format the hard drive. Many of my graphics are also corrupted, and they were perfectly good graphics loaded on this computer when it had Windows 98...
Yesterday, I was resizing a photo in Photoshop, when everything went haywire. I suddenly started getting a continuous explorer.exe error screen that could not be shut down, nor could I do anything else. The only temporary solution was to shut off the computer switch. When I turned it back on...
Have you installed the printer software on your client computer? With Windows 98, that is necessary to use whatever printer you need, even if it is installed on a server or another computer. Spaces do not matter.
The sound on my computer is fine, everything works, sound recorder tests O.K.; the problem comes in when I try to use Net Meeting or MSN Instant Messenger Audiow with a friend of mine. I cannot hear her talking to me, nor can she hear me talking to her. We were able to use Net Meeting some...
Thanks for replying to my inquiry. I ran a test and replied to an e-mail in Outlook Express, but that could not recreate the appearance of the ~ file. When I view its Properties, it simple says File as the name of it. I definitely want to get rid of it ASAP. It is gone at the present, but it...
A Windows-logo file keeps reappearing on my desktop named: ~
I delete it, and a day or two later the ~ file is back again.
I opened it with QuikView and it was all in code except for the word "Broderbund" and the names of everyone in my Outlook Express address book. I contacted...
