Yesterday my firewall suddenly reported that SSDPSRV.exe on Windows ME was trying to access the internet. From what little I learned doing a search on Google, it opens a backdoor...port 5000. Since I have Windows 98 2nd Ed, I don't understand why I even have this on my computer, and why it would suddenly be attempting to gain internet access. Is there a logical explanation anyone has for this? Is this .exe file safe to remove?

I was browsing through Tek-Tips trying to find an answer to exactly the same problem Najoba reported. Funny why I encountered the same problem at about the same time he did. Is this an indication of some virus or trojan horse or something?

I fount the same thing on one of my company computers. My virus check turned up nothing.. I will research too!

Thank you!!!

Tony, I cannot access either of those two websites, and I do not have that option check under Communications in Windows.
