If you are useing a standard Windows 98 bootdisk you can press F5 at the menu and go straight to the command prompt bypassing everything.

Novell came out with a patch for the nt client yesterday. Try patching the install files that you have and running the uninstall in safe mode. If that doesn't work, I would try installing the patched version then uninstalling it.
