I've got a Win 2000 server w/SP4 and a Quantum DLTVS80 tape drive on it. Windows recognizes the tape drive, but I can't create a new media in NTBackup. The only option it gives me is "DLT" (not DLT1 or any of the other newer DLT formats), and if I select DLT, it says "media pool...
I've got two SCSI hard drives on an adaptec 29320 controller, IBM Netvista PC. SCSI utilities on boot up sees both hard drives, but I can't get it to complete the RAID 1 mirror. It gets about 40% through, then just stops. Both hard drives are good, and the controller is good, and I know that...
We have a couple of users who consistently show up in NT 4.0 server manager as having dozens of files open, so that others can't edit them. In reality, the files are not open, nor have they opened them any time in the recent past. Why do they show up as "in-use" when they are not...
If you're the exchange administrator, all you have to do is create a new profile in Outlook with the user's account, and you can read their email all associated folders. Doesn't require their password if you're logged in as exchange admin.
Is it possible to have more than one alternate recipient for an outlook mailbox in Exchange 5.5? I want to have an account for customer service where the mail sent to this address would be delivered to multiple mailboxes. Currently, we just use the "alternate recipient" method on the...
Is there any way to speed up or streamline the search function in Windows XP? I've tried it with and without indexing turned on, and in both cases it is abyssmally slow--sometimes over 15 minutes to search maybe 5 GB of files, compared to about 15 seconds on Win98, 2000, NT, etc. It's...
I have to install Win NT 4 server on a Compaq Deskpro. We've put in a RAID 1 array with 2 SCSI hard drives, 73 GB each. When I run the NT 4 installation diskettes, it gets through the first install disk and crashes on the 2nd disk, with the error "inaccessible boot device". It never...
Some users logging on to our NT domain show up multiple times in the security event logs. For instance, when User A logs on, the logs may show 4 or 6 records for this person, while User B may only show up once when logging on. What causes this?
Thanks
On Windows NT 4.0 server in Server Manager, one user sometimes shows up as having multiple files open (I believe they are all excel files) when in fact he doesn't have any open at all. This prevents others from editing the files. Why would these files show up as open when they are not open...
We have an NT 4.0 domain, use roaming profiles for each user. Some of the profiles contain a TEMP folder, some don't. Some user profiles that do have a temp folder get very large (close to 1 GB), all of it is junk. This makes for very slow logon. Questions; (1)what determines whether or not...
I've got a user with Japanese Office 2000 Professional. All the apps error out right after I start them. I've done uninstall and reinstall but the problem persists. How can I get rid of office completely and start from scratch without reformatting the hard drive?
Thanks!
I have a Win 2000 user; yesterday she couldn't log on to our domain and it turned out that the PCs netbios identification had been changed from "abc" to "abc-xycetc". Also her user accounts folder only had Administrator and Guest accounts in it after this, and the antivirus...
I had a similar problem--couldn't open User Manager at all, and got the "insufficient resources" message. In control panel->system->environment->ComSpec, I changed it to c:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe /e:2048 This is based on MS KB article #Q158141. Also part of our problem was CA...
EZ Gig is a simple hard drive to hard drive link that recreates the original HD on the new one. I've had generally good results with that for NT 4 and Win9x; not sure how well it handles Win2K or XP.
