I have XP Pro as my operating system at home for 1 year.

I now just had them install XP Pro as my new operating system at work.

At home when I minimize an application the button at the bottom of the screen will now show all 3 options, I can either Restore up, Maximize, or Close. To close is one event, just hit the X.

At work when I minimize an application the button at the bottom of the screen will only show the Main Icon (either W for Word, X for Excel) and the first 5 characters of the file name. To close them I have to click on them, then close or right click and close both require two events.

How can I get them to be the same as my Home? Is this an option I can choose? As addtional information I installed XP on my system at home and others did the install at my work system.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but maybe it's the taskbar grouping settings. Go to:

Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu
or
Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Taskbar and Start Menu

and check/uncheck "Group similar taskbar buttons

OK
The suggestion:
Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu
or
Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Taskbar and Start Menu

and check/uncheck "Group similar taskbar buttons"

Did not accomplish what I wanted.

How do I include a screen shot?

Register and upload your images with the above site, you will then have a URL link to post in your next reply here and we can all look at your pretty pictures, and hopefully work out what you are talking about, of course we still may not know the answer.

In that screenshot, your desktop looks as I would expect on a WinXP machine. To get to Restore, Maximize, or Close, you right-click over an application in the taskbar (bottom of the screen)

I guess I would need to see a screenshot of your home desktop, to see how it differs.
