Word--- Equation help

I have a sqare root equation built using the equation Editor, for some reason the square root symbol isnt expaniding as i type the equation, is there something i have to do to get it to expand to the length of the eqation and not just the first digit?

You must write inside square root symbol; if a blinking underline is under full square root symbol it means that you are in the other part of equation.
