Is there a rule, policy or setting somewhere in in Windows that would erase the settigns of a woreless card after rebooting?

I have a windows XP laptop that every time I configure the SSID adn get the laptop connected to the network that it loses it's settings after rebooting.

Thank You!

The answer is No to your original question.

You need to make a choice:

. use Windows Wireless Configuration service, and specify a "Preferred Network", and select "Only connect to Preferred Networks", or,

. Disable "let Windows assign Networking ..", and use the client utilities to identify, and connect to a preferred AP or router.

Mixing the services does not work well.

If you could specify your manufacturer make and model number of the wireless equipment involved, more specific help from the Forum is likely.

I'm going over to the person house tonight that I'm trying to help. I'll mark down the make model numbers and then update tomorrow. Thank you very much for your help.

Hopefully you can post again from the site. :-)

You should be able to resolve the issue. Just remember: either Windows handles the adapter, or the manufacturer's utilities handle the adapter.

Thanks again. She's having a wireless print server problem too. Hopefully that will go smooth btu I don't it. Hook it up locally to the laptop no problem, hook it up via the router gets all teh way to the test page then craps the bed. All this is being pased on to me from another person that tried to help so once I get a chance to see for myself it's all word of mouth.

Be carefull with print server boxes. Some printers that require bi-directional data paths, and/or have scanner and other features that are essentially done by a connected workstation just will not work.

Contact the printer server manufacturer and ask Tech Support: is Printer XXX by Manufacture XXXX supported in this use; or is a workaround required?

Addressing the services fixed it. Thanks man! Yeah I was doing some research about the print server deal and seen that. You think I hard wired print server would be ok connecting to a wireless router via ethernet?
