Hi,

I am having problems with my PC getting an IP address from my Netgear DG824M (latest firmware) ADSL router, either by network cable or wireless. Both of these work on my laptop using exactly the same cable, so i know it isn't the router, just to make sure I reset it to the factory defaults just incase then set it up again.

I have tried the usual IPCONFIG /release and /renew

It used to work, I have deactivated my firewall software, no viruses etc. There is a wireless link active between the router with a good signal strength and a 100Mb link on the network card. I've tried giving it a static IP address but no luck.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be,much appreciated, its driving me around the bend.

Graeme

DHCP failures are a true p.i.a. to resolve.

My thoughts, and I hope they help:

. There can be introduced in software an intermiediary, and the removal can cause problems: see, for example, but check all the entries for a similar problem with other software,
. If you can use a static IP rather than DHCP, do so. If there is no resolution with a static IP, please post back.

. There are a lot of firewall products that mess with DHCP. Right-clicking the icon on the notification tray and disabling the firewall is not enough for testing. Control Panel, Add/Remove Software.

. There are a lot of "hidden" firewalls in antivirus software anymore with default installation options. PC-Illan for an example, would kill DHCP.
