Can anyone point my in the right direction? I am looking at changing the ip address from 10.27.9.60 to 10.27.9.50 this is a Windows 2003 Server with AD, DHCP, DNS and win server running. I am changing the ip address, DNS, Wins server is because we have 100s of Workstation at our other branches pointing to 10.27.9.50. And it is easier to change the address at the server then at the workstations. I'd tried changing the ip address, DHCP, DNS and Wins server to the new address (10.27.9.50) BUT for some reason it doesn't work. When I try to login on my workstation it takes forever (like 10 mins) when I finally managed to login, I'd run the ipconfig /all command in dos mode and the DNS show up with the old address (10.27.9.60). Any ideas?

Have not done it in over a year but....
You need to change in DNS, all records including the srv records, PTR records, in DHCP and the dhcp options (scope/server), WINS..Was pretty easy, but easy to miss an entry.
I believe I also searched the registry and replaced any references to the old IP.

Additional info to technome's comment:
"ipconfig /registerdns" to register your new IP on the DNS, then make sure SRV records in DNS has been updated.

Make sure your DC is pointing to the correct IP for it's own DNS resolution.

You say that you have DHCP. Are all of your workstations configured for DHCP or do they have static IP addresses?

HI PScottc,

Thanks very much for your request. But I can't seem to get it to work yet.

I've changed the IP address from 10.27.9.60 to 10.27.9.50 but however when I log in to my workstation the DNS still have the 10.27.9.60. All the worstations have

* Obtain an IP address automatically
* Obtain an DNS server address automatically

But for some reason after I successfully log on after 10mins. I went to start-run "cmd" to get the dos prompt and the command ipconfig /all and the DNS and Win server still have 10.27.9.60 address (it should be 10.27.9.50 - the new address).

After changing the IP address (through 'my network place-LAN-TCPIP properties) of the server do I have to reconfigure the DHCP??

Thanks,

Yes. You must change the DNS server in the DHCP options. Then do a ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew on the workstations.

PScottC,
Thanks. It works!

I changed the DNS and Wins Server address in the DHCP scope options as well as the ip address in network connection.

Thanks for your help,
