Yes I know that a P1, 166 w/ Win95 is little better than an odd shaped boat anchor, but I don't have a boat.

When I purchased this machine I also installed a keyboard with touchpad, and everything works well; there are two cords, one plugs into the keyboard port, the other to the serial mouse port.

I am turning this computer over to my wife and she's not wild about the 'fancy' keyboard, so I set about scrounging up a regular keyboard and serial mouse. BUT the o/s wouldn't recognise the mouse. So I checked by replugging in the touchpad/keyboard and everything still worked. The keyboard has a serial port to attach an external mouse and a switch to switch over. I tried that but NO GO.

I don't think there are any special drivers installed, but my work with Win95 is long ago enough that I have forgotten what I did know - where they might be an how to disable/remove any that are there.

You could try the following (If you are familiar with DOS)

1) Look on the HD for a file called mouse.com

2) Edit the config.sys file to tell the computer where the file is located.

Tanx guys.
problem solved - wiped out HDD and installed win98se. also solved other issues.

Wouldn't it be great if all of lifes problems could be solved by reinstalling an O/S?

Not pointed directly at you j0ckster.... just chuckling to myself. Feels like a Simpsons episode - "It's funny 'cause it's true!"

Well, I thought I had it fixed.
I want to try to use an optical USB mouse with this beast, but the o/s won't recognise it. As noted at the top, this machine is rather elderly and sports a serial mouse card. Via a series of adapters I have managed to plug the mouse into the port. It lights up, but... The machine isn't set up for USB, but I could probably find a ps/2 card for it.

Any ideas? Cheap, easy ideas, please.
