Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with a problem I encountered today. I was setting up a little peer to peer network for a customer. His number one computer he wants to keep using as the primary is running win98,the second one is running win 2000 pro. I checked the box in windows 2000 that indicated to assume that this person(which was administrator)has logged on to the computer..and I left the password field blank. After booting the system the w2k computer is demanded a password in order to log in to the network, but, I didnt put one in. I wont take a blank one either...I know I can format and start over but I was hoping for an easier solution. Is it possible the name and password the w2k computer is wanting is the log in info used on the win98 pc?..the error message I receive after leaving the password blank is that I cannot access the network..
any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated

My guess is it is looking for a password that was entered previous to the time that you set up the network. Someone who used the computer in the past likely entered a password. As far as I know all you can do is reinstall Windows 2000 to fix a lost administrator password situation.

Bong..
thanks for your response..Thats what I was afraid of..lol
appreciate the imput..

There is a utility that will reset the administrator password. I don't remember the name off hand, but it's from System Internals..
It will not tell you what it was, just let you reset it to what you want.

Let me thank all of you with your great responses to my dilema. I ended up going to the clients office today and reformatting the drive and reinstalling everything all over. It took forever but I guess in the long run its worth it because I don't have to deal with it anymore LoL..btw the client did say he had put in a password long ago but had forgotten what it was..soooo..at least I know I'm not loosing my mind lol
again thank you all...
you really are lifesavers and I love all the good information you provide.
I doubt I could do my job without all of you sometimes..
thanks again
