When is a C200 controller required

Hello all,
I know this is a stupid question, but what is the purpose of a companion controller.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than to have a frontal lobotomy

When you are running Companion only and no digital sets, or you are putting Companion on something other than a Norstar system. Behind a PBX for example.
