What's the diffrent between SIP and HFA 1

Hi,
HFA - HiPath Feature Access - the phone will work 'natively' on HiPath, you get the HiPath menu on the screen and can use all the features, will only work on HiPath
SIP - Session Initiated Protocol - a Generic standard protocol for use on IP phones for compatibility, you can use a SIP Phone on most IP systems including HiPath, if used on HiPath the menu is limited, might not do 'blind transfer'.
(SIP is also used as a point to point link protocol)

So when using them on the HiPath, do you manage them with assistant or the DLS server for the OSV/SIP phones?
If you are using HiPath then it is better for the end user if you can use HFA.
If you are using HFA then you can manage them with the DLS and the Assistant.
If for some reason you are using SIP phones then yes, you can manage them using the DLS but I am not familiar with that.
It makes sense to use HFA if you are on the HiPath platform, if another platform then you have to use SIP.

Our system is "converged" The 4k is the core so to speak with all trunking coming into it and main phone number's for Departments are digital off the 4k, then the "outskirts" so to speak are SIP and running on the OSV (8k), with SIP trunks between the 4k and 8k. So when you said to use HFA, I wasnt really sure what you meant as I use assistant for the 4K and DLS to manage the OSV.
I did recieve an order of HFA model 60's that were supposed to be SIP, so I have had to flash them in the DLS server to SIP, so I can use them on the OSV side of the house.

Yes, we also have systems like that, if you like you can have all SIP but what I know is that the HFA works better on the HiPath.
If you setup a SIP phone on the HiPath and you are happy with it's workings then use them as SIP.
SIP trunks are a different thing to the phones as you know.
And yes as you know you can flash them to SIP or HFA or back again.
If you have a problem use the DERT.
