Hi all,
Just recently, I've noticed that my disk light (Win XP sp2, Outlook 2K3) is constantly clattering when nothing is going on--not just that soft blinking--I'm talking about noisy thrashing.

A look in Task Mgr shows i/o read and writes going crazy for outlook. I am not compacting data files and I'm unaware of outlook ever doing that sort of stuff on it's own. It is not sending or recieving--there is nothing in the in or outbox, and my send/recieve is strictly on demand--nothing automatic there. I've used outlook for years and have never noticed this before. I *have* however, recently done some windows updates. Does anyone know if there was an udpate to Outlook or Windows that might cause this? (and what is it doing anyway?)
Thanks,
--Jim

Could it be indexing your inbox and folders?

Is it Outlook 2007?? If so, the Windows Search 4.0 might be at work indexing (as stated above).

Use Process Explorer to take a look at the processes on your computer and see it the one I mentioned is present.

I have no idea what it was, (it's outlook 2003 btw), I rebooted and it stopped. Just a very odd occurance. It wasn't Search 4.0, I had tried Search 4.0 a few weeks ago for about 10 minutes and it appeared to be a huge step backwards.
Thanks,
--Jim
