What needs to be implemented for BSR status polling using IP?

I'm looking for info on implementing BSR status polling via IP. We currently use MCI to send the status poll information between eight S8700's. We are looking to utilize our existing IP network as the medium for this task. Is this possible? If so, can it be done without MED-PRO boards - all of the voice will travel through existing PSTN trunks.
