I get "Unable to acquire a license for this service. Please contact your system administrator."

412 on 6.0
Preferred Edition licensed
Power User 5 pack licensed

Was there a license I was missing to get this to work? I'm 2:30am, so I'm sorry if this is a RTFM question. I have gone through it many times, and I thought I had everything I needed.

Well, Voicemail Pro and One-X Portal are both installed on the D:\

Not sure if that matters

I think I found my issue.

Like I mention, I RTFM at like 2am... I skipped over one part..

Voicemail Server Requirements

Voicemail playback through the one-X Portal user's browser and personalized greeting playback require a Voicemail Pro 6.0 voicemail server installed as follows:
• o Microsoft IIS should be installed and running before installation of the Voicemail Pro voicemail server software. The following IIS options should be enabled:
• o Enable Direct Metabase Edit.
• o IIS6 Configuration Compatibility.
• o SSL should be disabled for the default website.
• o The Voicemail Pro voicemail server installation should include the Web Voicemail (UMS) component.
• o The voicemail server must be in the same subnet as the one-X Portal server.
• Check that the IIS on the voicemail server can be browsed by server name from the one-X Portal server PC. Enter into a browse. If the IIS server does not response resolve the DNS routing between the servers before proceeding with the one-X Portal installation.

I didn't do:
• o Enable Direct Metabase Edit.
• o IIS6 Configuration Compatibility.

and...

• Check that the IIS on the voicemail server can be browsed by server name from the one-X Portal server PC. Enter into a browse. If the IIS server does not response resolve the DNS routing between the servers before proceeding with the one-X Portal installation.

I actually cannot browser to
I am guessing this is the root of the issue.

I will be re-installing Voicemail on a server that already has IIS installed, and I will make sure Metabase Edit is allowed and that I can broswer to
I'll update everyone with my results.

I am already running IIS6, so I don't believe the IIS Configuration Compatibility is needed.

Why are they installed on the D drive ?
Is it a dedicated server ?
Also ums uses IIS and 1XP uses tomcat web services !!!

D drive is normally used for any applications not associated with Microsoft, everything gets installed on D. Really no other reasons I can think of than that.

So this seems to be an IIS issue strictly due to the fact 1XP works fine(tomcat), and web voicemail doesn't.

3rd time is a charm tonight.

Well..

On the new server.. I installed IIS. I have no virus scan.. I then selected the option to Enable Direct Metabase Edit in ISS.

Then installed VMPro with Web Voicemail, browsed to and I get the splash screen for it and says No Licenses Available.

Also, the directions say to try and browse to and I still can't do that.

Really getting disgruntled here.

Do you have an ipo connected to it with a valid UMS license ? ( i know you checked it but do a double check)
Do you have a user configured for UMS ?

I just got finished doing the following. I figured I'd go back to my CCC days..

Uninstalled VMPro
reboot
Uninstall ASP.net
reboot
Uninstall IIS
reboot
have a drink..
reboot
Re-install IIS
reboot
Re-install ASP.net (the one that came with VMPro)
reboot
Re-install VMPro while selecting Web Voicemail
reboot

Try no luck 404 not found.
Try I get the Web Voicemail Splash screen saying
"Unable to acquire a licence for this service. Please contact your system administrator."

I have made sure the firewall is off. I have made sure DEP is set to windows services only.

pretty little star for the magic fix here. [upsidedown]

Seen it before and was very simple but i can't remember.
But like it said, there must be an ipo connected with users and licenses!
Do you have the ip address configured for VMPro in manager instead of leaving it as broadcast ?

@h382,

keep it up ;)..dont take that as crude..just to keep the spirit up..

but there are some quite funny things with some apps and VM and UMS are at the centre, which some may not agree,

you will find me working hard on UMS (UMS Help thread from kwing, and also my problems i posted earlier..point is you are not alone and midnight oil is burnt in other parts of the world too :)...

the extra thing i am doing now is i have 2 servers lined up with nothing else more important and so i just re-install scratch from OS..and if i uninstall any components after reboot i remove the de-linked apps folder too like the old fashion way...

we will reach there sometime..:)

Well.. I did fat finger the IP Address of the VM Server in the One-X Portal config. That got my greetings working.

VM Server address on the IPO is static and not broadcast, and users are attached.

Even if you pull up IIS, you can expand the Default Site, and see the names/accounts sections, all with the users in them and the wav files associated.

If I don't have the VMPro service started, and I try to access the localhost/voicemail it tells me that it failed to intialize, and once I start the VMPro services, it tells me that there are no licenses.. It seriously acts like I don't have any licenses for it.

now this is something wierd...
while working on this thread and UMS related stuff i came up on this..

i have a VMPro 5.0.25 installed...if you go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programmes/Select IP office Voicemail Pro/Change/Modify and continue with the installation you reach the installtion components selection page...over there below Voicemail Pro, Campaign, VPNM, Web Services you also get the full selection of IMS and its associated components..etc.

Now, post-VMPro 4.x there was no IMS?!!

5.X does not have IMS, you need to upgrade from a version that has IMS.

thats what i was saying, 5.x does *NOT* have IMS...then why IMS option show up when you try to change/modify an existing 5.x installation?

hang on to this thread if you can spare some time...

see, when you install vmpro 5.x there is of course no choice for IMS. but if you change/modify an existing installation from Add/Remove Programs then you do get this (unwanted) choice of IMS!

can you cross check please.?

That option is for upgrading an existing IMS install.
So a new install will not have IMS because it is not an option anymore.
For customers with IMS it is an option because they paid for it.

oh ok i got it..you mean the ver 5.x has component patch for older pre 5.x IMS installations but thats part of new version s/w...
thanks.
my only worry was whteher there was something wrong with my set of vmpro source..bcoz main issue is ums that i have been trying to get around to working..
