Hello all,
I have set up voicemail to email using smtp protocol and it works great sending alerts or wav files to users email address's without an Exchange Server. Simple set up using windows xp pro and my ISP (cox cable).

Can you set up voicemail to email using MAPI protocol without an Exchange Server?
Can I use only windows xp pro and my ISP like I use on smtp setup?

Any way to do this?

MAPI is a protocol that connects or interfaces between the IPO voicemail and the mail client (Outlook or outlook express)

The email client does not have to access an exchange server, it can (and we soemtimes do this) go to a ISP to allow POP3 mail collection

So yes! I'd suggest you use Outlook express, which allows you to turn off the "A program is trying to send email" warning message. the full outlook doesn't allow this...

Matt,
Thanks for the reply.

When using the MAPI protocol and a Exchange Server, do you have to have IMS license or can you use MAPI without IMS license?

An IMS licence is required if you are using IMS. Integrated messaging service relies on MAPI to aynchronise the users inbox with VM pro (so you delete a message in either and it deletes it in the other)

If you are using MAPI for email notifications, a licence is not required

Thanks Andy, (as it happens there is faq940-4343 which covers the same thing)

However, TBOMK, this requires Exchange, which is not appropriate for all sites!
