We have a really old Norstar with software release R1 T1. Looks like the NAM took a dive last night. The sounds from it sound like a bad hard drive. What voice mails systems will work with rel R1 T1. NAM? Flash Talk? Call Pilot?

Almost sound like our system. I believe that any NAM newer than the KSU software will work.

I just used a fiber NAM 4.1 on R1T1, without any incompatibility problems; I'd go the full upgrade to the newest, so the possibility of upgrading the system software in the future will be left open.

Anyone know if StarTalk Flash would work on R1T1. Looks like those are less expensive and we would not risk loosing the hard drive again.

Which would be the better choice? for a quick fix. Buy a flash or NAM or repair current?

For a quick fix I'd have the NAM repaired. For the longer term a Flash or Call Pilot will last longer as they use flash memory chips instead of a hard drive. A Flash 2 will have 2 channels (ports) and 24 mailboxes. If that's big enough for your company then the cost will be not much more than having your NAM repaired.

I don't think 24 mailboxes will be enough. About 35 to 40 people in the office.

If a flash isn't big enough, I'd get the NAM repaired, or pick up a refurb. Keep the NAM on a decent UPS, and it'll last a good long time.

Hard drives do die, and flash cards get erased. There is no inviolate media.

We just ordered a refurb Flash 4. We would love to upgrade to 7.1 and go call pilot but the Money is just not there right now.

Brian, as a matter of fact we ordered it from JandJcommunications. I hope it got shipped out today like we were told but I did not hear back yet.

OK our Flash is on the way. Any one have tips or things to look out for when moving from a NAM to a Flash?

Will it use the same ports on the Norstar? If I don't have to rerun those cables it will save a little time.

There are some Floppies from the NAM. We don know how old the backups are on them. Can they be read to see what the config was? This might give starting point on setting up the new system.

Configs will not tell you anything, re-program from scratch.

Turn set relocate OFF

F**XFTEST
Remove all F98X's codes

Install Flash on same ports then boot up.

If one of those disks is labelled secure then give it to who ever you sell the NAM too as it contains key codes.

Yes you can use the same ports as the NAM. Check our website for a quick reference on programming the Flash. I'm back online after getting to Oregon, but I only have dialup right now. Be patient with me if you need any questions answered.

Everything is now done. Worked perfectly. Had a few challenges along the way but got everything worked out. Now about to get on the road for the 3 hour trip home.
