Is it possible to use an IP Office 403 to make calls through the internet for free ?

Equally is it possible to make calls from a laptop via the internet and into an IP Office 403 ?

If I understand your question correctly, I belive if you have your laptop VPN into the network that the IP Office is on and you use Phone Manager Pro software on your laptop and it has a sound card you can make calls to and thru the IP Office.

You can't just place calls to anywhere via the internet for free - this is a common misunderstanding. You need equipment at the far end terminating PSTN connections, typically another IPO.

Thanks for the replies.

I thought that there are gateway companies that take incoming calls from the internet and route them over PSTN ?

So I just need Pheon Manager Pro, not a SoftPhone ?

phone manager pro is not the same as softphone in licensing terms. you must have a license for "phone manager pro" and "phone manager pro ip audio enabled"

also, to make free ip based calls all you have to do is connect a vonage line to an analog trunk and give it a unique line group and shortcode to access it.
I use 801 + 1 + NPA + NXX + xxxx.

Cost: 24.99
Result: free long distance calls.

This works well for all of workers that do use softphones to save on LD. This can also be done with least call routing but this way is easier. it also lets the customer know they are using vonage and not the real pstn. vonage isn't perfect, you know?

as for the softphone...
this works on 3 out of 5 installs
plan to reload windows for the others.

if anyone knows how to make it 5/5 on win xp sp2, please let me know.

Don't forget the VCM module, it won't work without ( also a commom misunderstanding made by newbies )

If you are wanting your caller to be able to "speak" through their PC then you will need a phone manager pro license as well as an ipro audio enable license.
