Is there any way - short of changing User names in Manager - to get Dial-By-Name to work off of the the 1st 4 letters of the first or last name vs. having to keyin the entire first and/or last name??

You do not need to spell out whole name.. However, the more letter you enter the narrower the search for the person you want..

Well - it does not seem to work - when you only enter the first few letters and press #. It says name not found. So, for example - if I dial in, choose dial-by-name, and keyin SUSA# for Susan - it says name not found. If I dial the full name (SUSAN) and press # - no problem. The customer wants callers to just have to keyin no more than the first 4 letters - and be transferred. The only answers I have received (from an Avaya dealer) to make that work - is to enter only the 1st 4 letters for first and last name on the User's Full-name field in Manager - but that screws up what's displayed on the phones. So - just wondering if there was any kind of work-around - to get dial-by-name to initiate the transfer as soon as enough letters were keyed to "find" the target extention - or at least no more letters than the 1st 4.

yeah, kevin is right, i have never had to dial the whole name. what version IPO and vm? the name in manager, it is in the FULL Name line and not just name?

The IPO and VMPro are the newest versions 4.1.15 (for IPO) and 4.1.42 (for VMPro).

Maybe - I need to experiment some more - but I could not get it to correctly dial any extention without entering the FULL first name (all letters) and then pressing #.

In user's tab in IP Office the name should be filled out something like this JSmith The full name can be John Smith.
I think you could use Susan in name field and it should work..
VM Pro uses the name field to do the match I believe also there in a place in VM pro to select whether you want it to uswe 1st or last name.. by default I belive it looks for last name.

Also user needs to record name or dial by name won't work

Are the names recorded in the mailboxes if not the dial by name will not work.

Hi NYStech - that I know. Whatever entry I make in "Full Name" field under Users - is what VM Pro will look at. However, I did not just want to enter the 1st 4 letters of the 1st and last name in that field - because then the phone display shows only a partial name. I was looking to see if there is any entry option in setting up Dial-by-Name to have it only look for the 1st 4 letters entered - instead of whatever is keyed in the Full Name field under User.

OK - I'm stupid! You guys are correct. If I dial less than the full first name and press# - it will route correctly.
